Port Douglas is a town surrounded by palm trees, the reef & the rainforest. It’s beautiful. But, the most beautiful thing about it is the feeling that the world is at our fingertips. Tourists come & go year in and year out but the locals, well, they’re always here. After months of dealing with the wrath of the pandemic & what seemed like endless lockdowns and cancelled events, Tropical Sounds Festival was created by Stephy Cameron and Justin Ogge to bring back events that re-created the feeling of “there’s no place like home” & what better way to kick start it all with a Pool Party!

We have collectively been in the events industry for over 30 years & given our connections to people within the industry all over Australia, the ball started rolling immediately. Justin is one of the owners and directors of JAM Productions and boy oh boy does he come with a wealth of experience and Stephy has worked in all areas of events, hotels, and hospitality which soon resulted in the creation of Tropical Sounds Festival.

Justin started his Production career with a traineeship with the largest concert lighting company in the Southern Hemisphere and upon completion, he spent 5 years touring Australia and overseas with some of the largest bands in the world. Justin then saw himself as a freelance lighting designer and moving light technician working on feature films, festivals, stadium tours, TV shows & large corporate events. After visiting Cairns with INXS, he fell in love with this slice of paradise and moved up north to continue designing and producing large shows.

Justin and his business partner then had the realisation that most of their clients in their current jobs were looking for much more than your basic AV so they wanted to break the rules in the way AV suppliers produced events, not just on the ground but also in the proposal process. A PCO from Sydney took a chance on the pair & they were soon after awarded the job for a national conference of 500 pax in Canberra. It was executed seamlessly (of course…) & JAM Productions was born.

JAM Productions then met Stephy. Stephy has a world of knowledge in all thing’s events. She has worked in everything from planning and styling weddings to having a paddock to plate restaurant and luxury farm stay venue to styling all around Australia she has been involved in the production and behind the scenes aspects for large events mostly in Victoria until making the move Port Douglas in early 2021. With her big & bold ideas, eye for detail and her talent for event-execution, Stephy and Justin are the perfect collaboration. After 2020 & 2021 becoming a dud time for events and all the likes, we needed to bring events back to Port Douglas, so we decided to create our own under the banner of Tropical Sounds Events.
